In Zen, Ensoō (円相 , "circle") is a circle that is hand-drawn made with one continuous movement of brush or pen. The painting of an Enso is an expression of the moment. Enso, as a symbol, also represents the artist, the maker of the mark. The artist’s mind is revealed and captured in the act of creating it, along with their acceptance of imperfection..

By shaping, forging and welding metals, Zaref's Enso sculptures explore the moment of creation in an entirely different medium. Like ink and brush, fluid and often whimsical strokes capture the magic of the moment.
